The Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS)
provides internship opportunities to one crore youth in India's top 500 companies over five years
.
Launched by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the scheme aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by offering practical experience.
The 12-month internships are designed to enhance employability and expose youth to real-life business environments.
Key Features:
Target Audience:
Youth between 21-24 years old, not currently enrolled in full-time education or employment.
Duration:
12 months, with at least half the time spent in a real work environment.
Scope:
The scheme encompasses various sectors like Agriculture, Automotive, Banking, Healthcare, IT, and more.
Eligibility:
Candidates with High School, Higher Secondary, ITI, Diploma, or Bachelor's degrees (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, etc.) are eligible.
Benefits:
Interns receive a monthly stipend, the amount varying based on educational qualification (e.g., ₹37,000 for graduates).
Registration:
Applications are accepted through the official PMIS portal (pminternship.mca.gov.in).
Scheme Objectives:
Provide practical work experience to enhance employability.
Foster industry-academia linkages to address skill gaps.
Create a pool of skilled and industry-ready youth.
Implementation:
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs oversees the scheme.
Regional Directorates, like the Northwestern Regional Directorate, handle implementation at the regional level.
The scheme is independent of other skill development and apprenticeship programs.
The PMIS website and mobile app facilitate registration and information access.
